I had been adopted as a child and growing up had always desired to know my true family roots. A few years ago I found my family and unfortunately had missed the 2008 Egan gathering. I can't wait to visit Ireland, Redwood Castle will be my first stop! I have heard that once I step foot on Ireland ground that I will at long last feel like I am truly home, I totally believe it!!!

As Redwood Castle had connections with O' Sullivan Bere's historic march in 1603 from Beara to Breffni, could I respectfully suggest you make reference to such an event in the Castle History section. Congrats on the website.

Excellent site , i am currently buliding a website on the neighbouring castle of Lackeen of the O' Kennedy Fionn. An old tradition states that Redwood Castle was "built with bullocks blood and mortar!" well done to all involved with this site.....david_broderick1@hotmail.com

That Mrs. Kennedy that you stayed with is actually my grandmother's sister! The version I heard was that the Kennedy's had the Kennedy's had the castle until quite recently. And my great-grandfather Michael Kennedy sold it in the pub for a few pounds when the local Canon and Mr. Egan got together and tried to buy it off him. Apparently these Kennedys were related to JFK's ancestors!

Believe it or not, I spent the night alone in this castle in 1987. The caretaker, Mrs. Kennedy who lived nearby, took a liking to me and let me in, although the owners were not at home. I was 30ish with a backback, and she made me dinner and then showed me a guest room in the castle. Of course, I couldn't sleep and spent most of my time in the chapel and the grand hall. In the morning I shot some wonderful photographs. A highlight of my trip. It all happened because I talked to a young Irish girl in a LA pizza place right before my trip to Ireland. She claimed to be friends with the owner's daughter, and she insisted I see the castle. It's all true.
