Our Guides
Donal and Daniel were our guides in 2009.
This year our guides are Michael Lambe, a local student steeped in history and a love of the place, and Mary McGeeney, a qualified tour guide, will lead the 2010 Tapestry of the Bog.
Donal Fahy
A native of North Tipperary & lives in the foothills of the Devil's Bit Mountains, close to the town of Templemore, Co. Tipperary. Donal received a B.A. Hon.s Degree in Heritage Studies from Galway / Mayo Institute of Technology in 2006. Afterwards, completed a taught Masters in Town Planning at University College Cork & graduated at the end of 2008.
Donal is an experienced guide of Redwood Castle & recognises how visitors show a fascination with the Castle's restoration by the MacEgan's, who affiliate their ancestry back to much earlier occupants of Redwood Castle over 300 years ago.
Daniel Flynn
Daniel is a graduate of the Trinity College Dublin School of History. He has a keen interest in Irish history right across the last millennium. This is particularly useful, as Redwood Castle stood intact over more than three centuries of Irish history, and still did not cease to have an impact on the local area when it was eventually gutted by fire.
Visitors are welcome to ask about Redwood's place in wider Irish history, as well as learning about its specific geographical, architectural and military features.
